The Sovereign Center | Facts You Need To Know
The Sovereign Center is a multi-purpose arena, with a capacity of over 7,000 seats. Built in 2001 Reading, Pennsylvania on the place where Astor Theatre used to be located, the modern Center still retains some mementos of the old Theatre, such as the flamboyant Art Deco chandelier or the ornate gates. Virtually all of them are on display or in use inside the corridors of the arena, hence providing a considerate level of insight into the classic ambiance of the 20th century movie house.
The Sovereign Center contains 20 luxury suites and 700 club seats. Additionally, its floor offers more than 25,000 square feet of banquet space. The arena can accommodate large events as well as smaller ones, since it also uses the Reading Eagle Theatre. More than that, the Sovereign setup offers a multi-purpose room measuring approximately 4,500 square feet and able to accommodate events for up to a couple of hundreds of guests at a time.
The arena is currently home to the Reading Royals, the local hockey team, but also to the indoor lacrosse team Reading Rockets, which plays in the Professional Lacrosse League. The Sovereign Center is the formerly home to Reading's basketball team, Reading Railers, as well as to the Reading Express, their indoor football team.
