If you are visiting the Athens, Georgia area, you may want
to check out the James Brown Arena. Also known as the Augusta-Richmond County
Civic Center, the arena is managed by the Golden Spectrum Company. It offers an array of entertainment
opportunities to satisfy a wide variety of audience members.
The arena was originally opened in 1980. It is one of several components that makes up the Augusta Entertainment Complex. It was renamed after famous singer James Brown in 2006. It currently holds about 8,500 people.
The arena hosts many different types of events. Historically, it has been the home of several different sports teams. Currently, the only one that calls the arena home is The Augusta River Hawks, a hockey team that plays in the Southern Professional Hockey League. As a sports venue, the arena also hosted UFC 11 and multiple wrestling events, including ECW's December to Dismember in 2006.
However, the arena's events are certainly not limited to athletic displays. It is also a popular venue for concerts. Some of the notable headliners include the following: Bob Seger, Van Halen, Rush, Kiss, REO Speedwagon, Kansas, Alabama, the Charlie Daniels Band, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Ratt, the Marshall Tucker Band, and Mothers Finest.
If concerts or athletics are not your cup of tea, there are other reasons to go to the James Brown Arena. Their box office has tickets to miscellaneous other events, such as home and garden shows and family shows like the Harlem Globe Trotters. Comfortable, fun, and exciting, the arena is a must-see destination.
